In this article, we explore a remarkable transformation of the old-school BMW E24 6 Series, reimagined through the creative vision of the body work experts from Coutner Japan. While BMW never produced an M6 variant in this particular body style, Coutner’s team decided to create their own interpretation of what a 1980s BMW M6 E24 might have looked like if the brand decided to complete with it in DTM.

Taking cues from the iconic BMW E30 M3, Coutner outfitted their 6 Series with aggressive wide-body kit, including front and rear fenders, performance bumpers, and distinctive aerodynamic spoilers. The result is a stunning tribute that captures the essence of BMW’s motorsport heritage and looking like it could have been a legitimate homologation special straight from the BMW Motorsport division of the 1980s.

E24 6-Series Heritage

With its streamlined appearance, perfect grand tourer coupe proportions, and unmistakable 80s charisma, the BMW 6-Series E24 can be easily called one of the sexiest models of the brand.

It was introduced back in 1976 and featured a lot of innovative solutions that shaped the image of a luxury grand tourer for decades ahead. The spacious (for a European car) interior could comfortably seat 4 people and surround them with sheer comfort and modern technological enhancements.

Throughout the years the 6-Series E24 was powered by a range of naturally aspirated inline-6 engines that gave out from 185 up to 260HP. The top-of-the-line BMW M635CSi was sold under the M6 name in North America since 1984 (the M5 was launched the same year), which signified the beginning of mass-produced BMW’s M-series.

Due to the increased size and weight common for luxury grand tourers, the BMW 6-Series was not widely used in racing championships such as the European Touring Car Competition and later DTM, giving way to the smaller and lighter M3 E30 model.

Despite this fact, the sporty heritage of the iconic E9 model still lives in the DNA of this model. Great fans and enthusiasts of the E24 6-Series, from Coutner company, out of Kyoto, Japan, decided to pay tribute to these legendary vehicles and create a 3.0 CSL Group 2-inspired wide body kit specifically for this model.

It includes widebody front and rear fenders, front bumper, rear bumper bottom and flaps, along with the trunk spoiler. According to the manufacturer it’s listed as a perfect fit for 635csi, M6, and M635CSi. Other early models will require additional brackets for the installation.

Japan Forged Custom wheels for E24 body kit

Choosing the right wheels is crucial for any wide-body build, and Coutner decided to ease up the search for its future clients by offering a perfectly tailored wheel set designed by Japan Forged for this particular setting.

The kit turned out to look exceptionally well on the BMW 6-Series E24, enhancing its body lines and proportions in a surprisingly refined way.

The price of this body kit is 880,000JPY, which equals roughly $8,000. In case you’re interested in getting this body kit for your E24 project, contact the manufacturer on Instagram directly @coutner_japan or visit their website!
