Despite the brand’s discontinuation almost a decade ago, the SAAB scene with loyal fans and enthusiasts keeps flourishing to this day. With cars becoming older and parts harder to get, the value of specific models is rising. One of the most sought-after models on the SAAB scene is certainly the Viggen performance edition of the first-generation 9-3 model, produced between 1999 and 2002. It was powered by a 2.3L turbocharged engine that produced 235 horsepower, which was quite impressive for a light hatchback.
Being a very significant model in SAAB’s lineup, the majority of the 9-3 viggen owners are looking to preserve these cars in the original form, without any extensive modifications. But the Automotive CGI artist Vladimir Sergov from Latvia decided to imagine what a 9-3 Viggen would look like with common exterior upgrades popular on the modified car scene.

Build Render
Vladimir created a series of renders that showcase the car with a radically low air suspension and a set of JDM-inspired staggered deep-dish Work Equip 01 rims that literally blew up the SAAB community.

Exterior Modifications
The bumpers, as well as the side skirts, are stock. The only aftermarket addition is the black splitter under the front bumper.
The original SAAB 9-3 Viggen was only available in Platinum Grey Metallic, Sapphire Blue Metallic, Jet Black Metallic, Steel Grey Metallic, and Polar White, but Vladimir decided to coat it in a dark burgundy color with contrasting black accents, which turned out to be a stylish combination.
The headlights, grille, and taillights were all blacked out with a smoke tint to continue the contrasting theme of the car.

Conclusion
Vladimir’s render of a modified SAAB 9-3 Viggen strikes a perfect balance between preserving the original character of the Viggen model and adding popular aftermarket enhancemebts.
The minimal yet impactful changes, particularly the aggressive stance and JDM Work wheels, turned this modest SAAB into a pretty attractive show-stopper. While some purists might prefer their Viggens stock, this render may inspire younger enthusiasts that are just opening up the SAAB scene for themselves.
