There’s one roadster that keeps fueling the passion of the motoring enthusiasts no matter what happens in the world. Despite never-ending financial and political crises, the Mazda Miata remains the best-selling convertible car year after year and it’s following is only getting stronger.
I spotted this cool wide-body Mazda Miata NB at the car show and drift event organized by Eurocrew at Cartagena Racing Circuit in Spain. Knowing about the dominance of EUDM cars like VW, Audi, and Seat in this part of the world, I was actually surprised stumbling upon this iconic Japanese roadster, let alone packed with cool aftermarket upgrades. But I guess Miata love is an international thing.

Wode Body Miata Build
The owner of this Miata, Eric from Spanish city Castellón, just outside Valencia, has invested a lot of time and effort to modify this roadster to his liking and gladly ansered a couple of my questions. Read on to find out more about the mods and upgrades he installed!
Exterior Mods
The most striking exterior modification on Eric’s 1998 Miata is undoubtedly the CarbonMiata widebody kit, which dramatically expands the car’s fenders to accommodate wider wheels and creates a more aggressive, race-inspired aesthetic.

This upgrade not only transforms the car’s appearance but also improves its handling capabilities allowing to widen the track and install wider wheels. According to the owner, this is the only widebody Miata in Spain, making it a truly unique build.
Some of the other upgrades is the NB1 to NB2 conversion, which updates the front and rear styling to match the second-generation restyling model launched in 2001, giving the car a more refine appearance with updated headlights and taillights. Custom roll bar tops off the build, adding that sporty look and enhanced chassis stiffness for track days or spirited driving on beautiful Spanish mountain roads.
Wheels
For the wheels, Eric has opted for a set of good-looking Japan Racing JR29 wheels sized 15×7″. They have a pretty hight offset of -45 mm, so he needed to use +50mm spacers on each corner.
This wheel setup pushes the tires outward to fill the widebody fenders perfectly, creating a flush fitment that enhances both the car’s visual appeal and potentially its cornering stability.

Parts Category | Difficulty Rating* |

Performance and suspension remained practically untouched, likely due to Spain’s strict road regulations that make significant mechanical modifications difficult to legalize. The striking Japan Racing JR29 wheels with their extreme offset and spacers perfectly complete the exterior package, creating a true show-stopper while maintaining compliance with local vehicle laws.
