Mustangs in general are some of the most popular and most frequently modified cars in the US for obvious reasons. They’re fast, relatively affordable, have tons of aftermarket support and of course good looking. Among the Mustangs, the V8s get all the fame and attention from enthusiasts because of the performance potential they have, but the V6 variants are often overlooked and sometimes even made fun of, despite the fact that they heve just enough power to stand strong among it’s V6 competitors.

Yet it didn’t stop the owner of this S197 V6 from starting a big modification project. He has improved every aspect of the build – enhancing the suspension, boosting performance, and completely transforming the look – creating what might just be the ultimate S197 V6 Mustang Build. Read on to find out more about it!

The V6 Build

What makes this build particularly impressive isn’t just the extensive mod list, but how thoroughly the owner has addressed every aspect of the car as pretty much no bolts were left unscrewed!

Performance

Even though the stock V6 provides 210 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque in stock form, which is pretty good for the 3,373 lbs curb weight, the owner was looking for some decent performance improvement. He focused on a comprehensive approach, starting with enhanced breathing through a performance air intake and throttle body spacer that allow the 4.0L to gulp more air.

The custom straight-piped exhaust not only improves exhaust flow but delivers a more aggressive sound that gives the V6 a slightly deeper and a more aggressive tone.

Power delivery is optimized through a professional engine tune that extracts every bit of potential from the modifications, while a stage 3 racing clutch and MGW short throw shifter transform the driving experience with crisp, positive gear changes.

The N2MD WotBox adds modern functionality with no-lift shifting capabilities for quicker acceleration between gears.

Perhaps the most head-turning addition is the HotLicks flame thrower system, which shoots actual flames from the exhaust on demand – a fun custom touch that would make any car enthusiast do a double-take and question whether this is “just a V6” or something far more sinister.

Wheels & Suspension

The suspension transformation on this S197 V6 is nothing short of radical. What started as Raceland Coilovers has evolved into a fully adjustable air suspension system using a C2B conversion kit and Airlift 3p management, allowing the Mustang to achieve the perfect stance.

The wheel setup is represented by JDM-inspired MST Suzuka 18×11 rims reminiscent to Enkei RPF1 wheels. They have an aggressive 10mm offset with 6.4 backspacing and are wrapped in meaty 295/35/18 tires at all four corners. Such a wide setup is required for the wheels to lush with a widebody kit that we’ll talk about next.

Wide Body Kit

The exterior modifications are where this Mustang truly shines. Starting with a one-of-a-kind custom blue paint, the most dramatic change comes from the Trufiber Widebody kit, which required cutting into the stock body to accommodate an additional 2.5 inches in the rear and 1.5 inches up front.

This aggressive setup is enhanced by a Brandon66polar Rear Diffuser with custom wickerbill spoiler, while the front end features an APR splitter and Cervinis Ram Air hood adding functional style.

“Yes, the V6 variant of the S197 doesn’t boast the hefty horsepower of its V8 brother, but let’s not forget that it still delivers 210 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque in the stock form, which is pretty good for the curb weight of 3,373 lbs. Plus you these numbers can be further improved with the right performance modifications”.

With all these modifications invested, this becomes the ultimate V6 S197 Mustang and hands down the best V6 build of this generation that we’ve come across. If you’re mostly concerned with style and stance, the V6 may be just right for you—and as time comes, nothing’s stopping you from dropping in a V8 or adding a turbo upgrade to truly shock the skeptics.
